October 22nd of this year I suddenly had very liquid stool. I wasn't irritated at first because this can always happen, but it didn't stop.

I had completely watery bowel movements for more than 4 weeks.

I tried to treat it symptomatically with Perenterol, Iberogast, etc. but nothing really helped. I regularly drank electrolyte fluids to prevent the weakness.

As I didn't lose any weight and my bowel movements were painless and without flatulence and didn't empty involuntarily, I was able to conclude that I had SBS of the colon. The colon only collects the stool and draws out some water. This is why I felt weak because of the lack of electrolytes, but without noticeably losing weight.

You'd think I'd be so well versed that I'd understand all the SBSs on myself - but here I was stuck: I kept going over and over what I might have resolved on October 21/22, but nothing on that day was at high enough emotional level to justify 4 weeks of diarrhea. Of course, this made me increasingly insecure as I had been able to understand and categorize every symptom on me for the last few years.

SBS of the colon proceeds as described below:
Conflict activation corresponding to the function of the intestine: not being able to get rid of something (shitting it out), but still wanting to keep some of it (reabsorbing water). Of course, this can be interpreted in a wide range of ways - it is usually anger situations that are perceived as unfair.
Conflict-active CA phase: The large intestine tries to remove more water by increasing absorption.
Conflict-resolved PCL phase: Absorption is significantly reduced. (-> diarrhea)

Finally, at the end of November, I suddenly remembered:
I had written a long email on October 20, clearing up a very old matter. It was a “scandal” from my youth. The situation took place in a theater group I had been a member of for many years and felt compelled to leave because of the “scandal”. I clearly wanted to get rid of the anger, but I actually wanted to keep the group. (colon activation) This situation was certainly one of the most unpleasant in my life and I felt the same way again and again when I met old members of the group or the previous theater director.

Out of the blue, I wrote an email to the director on October 20 and apologized for not being able to deal with the situation in an emotionally competent way at the time - even though I wasn't responsible from a rational point of view. But I wanted to show a gesture of reconciliation and also thanked him for the things I learned at that time. I even had tears in my eyes when I was writing and I even had the thought “You'll definitely get symptoms now!”. 2 days later, the day the diarrhea started, he replied that everything was fine and that he wasn't angry with me.

Soon after I understood this connection, the diarrhea stopped. Of course, this is not a consequence of understanding - but it probably calmed me down enough internally to allow the SBS to run its course. It's also possible that a local recurrence had set in because of my uncertainty (“get rid of the diarrhea, but still pull out the water”), which of course could make sense by understanding the connections.
